Points based immigration system

As of the 27th November employers who wish to bring non-European Economic Area skilled and/or temporary workers into the UK will need to be a licensed sponsor. Sponsors will be responsible for providing all migrants with certificates of sponsorship and ensuring that their sponsor obligations are fulfilled.

To obtain a sponsorship licence you must be:

• A legitimate organisation working within the law in the UK
• There should be no reason to believe that the applicant is a threat to immigration control
• It should be ensured that the applicant will meet its continuing sponsorship duties

This addition forms part of the new points based system which is used to assess the eligibility of non-EEA migrants to work in the UK. This particular change will only affect tier 2 (skilled workers with a job offer e.g. teachers and nurses) and tier 5 (youth mobility and temporary workers).
